BELDEN 8460 is a widely used speaker cable constructed from two twisted 18 AWG conductors. This ground wire uses one of those conductors individually, retaining a gentle natural wave profile created by the original twisted construction.

The natural wave profile provides a small amount of geometric compliance. Under light tension, the cable can initially take up a small amount of movement as the wave pattern straightens, before axial tension rises substantially.

This may help reduce sudden stress at the terminal connections, although the cable is not designed or tested as a dedicated strain-relief or coiled-cord structure.

Termination

Each genuine TE Connectivity AMP SOLISTRAND spade terminal is mechanically crimped using a ratcheting tool sized for 22–16 AWG non-insulated terminals. A small amount of electronics-grade rosin-core solder is then applied as a supplementary retention measure, and the termination is finished with heat-shrink tubing.

Solder is applied only after crimping and is not used as a substitute for the mechanical crimp.
